Next-Gen Now.

I’m Joby Bernstein and I’m running for Congress (CA-16) because it’s time for fresh leadership in Silicon Valley. I'm deeply committed to addressing the pressing issues our district faces, from climate change to education and immigration.

Palo Alto is my home. I’m an avid nature seeker, and I spend my free time biking on Skyline and trail running in Wunderlich Park. But you don’t have to look far beyond our doorstep today to realize our planet is in trouble. To effectively turn the tides on climate change, we’ll need to invest in protecting the environment, cultivate the best minds with accessible higher education, and retain the best talent through immigration reform.

I want to bring fresh energy and innovative solutions to these challenges and help our community and our nation thrive today and into the future. With a background in business, policy, and sustainability, I bring unique perspectives - backed by research and analytics - on how we can revitalize our country for generations to come.

why now

We have a short window to:

1 / Take action to prevent the worst effects of climate change

2 / Fix education inequities

3 / And keep talent in America

Start ups will change the world (this is Silicon Valley after all), but we will not be able to scale fast enough without taking action now. It is time for new voices and new energy in Washington.

WHy me

I’m 28 and bring unmatched curiosity, energy, and drive to everything I do. You will sleep well knowing I will outwork anyone to protect our legacy and build our future.

I wasn’t lucky enough to be born in California, yet, this is MY HOME. From Jewish synagogues, to Arastradero trails, to the Palo Alto farmers market, you have welcomed me! I am lucky that I can call Silicon Valley home. I am currently completing my MBA and MS in Climate Science from Stanford.

  • As an investor, I bring a no-nonsense, no-fluff, and analytical force to all problems. I dive deep and get to answers fast. I am focused on ensuring we can flex our community assets in this district to compound returns in DC.

I have experience investing in companies across the public and private landscape. I’m a CFA® charterholder.

Prior to pursuing an MBA/MS at Stanford, I started and led climate-tech investing at Wasatch Global Investors. Before that, I was a senior portfolio manager associate for Dodge & Cox's International Fund. My experience spans investment management, venture capital, growth equity, investment banking, and private equity.

  • I founded and led corporate sustainability programs at two multi-billion asset managers.

  • I have worked for the New Hampshire and Vermont state legislatures as a policy researcher in natural resources and economics. I have also worked for UT state legislature in laying the groundwork to create a green bank.

What else

  • I am someone who never stands still. Not because I am rushing to the destination, rather I enjoy the work it takes to get where we need to go. From meeting Palo Alto residents, to attending my classes, it’s the journey that I love the most.

When I do have free time, I fill it with spending time in the great outdoors, swimming with Stanford’s Masters team, eating meals with friends in the dining hall, and organizing events for climate and Judaism.

  • I am currently completing my MBA/MS degree at Stanford, where I lead the the Climate Club, Jewish Business Student Association, and started the Outdoors Club.

Prior to Stanford, I graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College as an economics major with honors. I also earned a double minor in public policy and environmental science. Outside of the classroom, I was captain of the Varsity Swim Team, president of the Dartmouth Business Journal, and president of Dartmouth's Investment and Philanthropy Program.

  • I love leading week-long backpacking trips throughout California. My favorite trip recently was up in the Lost Coast, where the scenery and wildlife really allows you to feel the power of Mother Nature.

I also love competing in open water swim races up and down the coast of California, but also all over the world. Ask me about my swim across the English Channel - that was a fun one!

enough about me.

I’d love to hear your perspective and how I can help.
